What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to a mother before, during, and after childbirth. Doulas do not provide medical care or perform clinical tasks, but they offer continuous support to the mother to help her have a positive birth experience.
Ways a doula may support the mother through pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum:
-Pregnancy support: Doulas provide information and resources to help the mother make informed decisions about her birth plan. They offer emotional support and help the mother navigate any concerns or anxieties she may have during pregnancy.
-Labor and delivery support: Doulas provide continuous support during labor and delivery by offering comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, and positioning suggestions. They can help the mother communicate her preferences to the medical team and advocate for her needs.
- Emotional support: Doulas provide a reassuring presence throughout the birth process, offering encouragement, reassurance, guidance and hands on support (if wanted) Ex. Massaging the lower back.

-Herbal and nutritional support: As an herbalist and doula I create specialized formulas to support women in different stages of the pregnancy journey, as well as nutritional guidance and cultivating meals to support the mother in recovery.
-Partner support: Doulas can also support the mother's partner by providing guidance on how they can best support the mother during labor and delivery.
-Postpartum support: Doulas offer assistance and guidance in the early postpartum period, helping the mother with breastfeeding, newborn care, and emotional support as she adjusts to motherhood. Doulas may also cook nourishing meals, and offer herbal remedies to support healing and recovery.
